Job Requirements for Seasonal Firefighters
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- Proof of completion of a FF1 course.
- Proof of attendance as a reservist at Stellenbosch Municipal Fire Services.
- Must be physically and mentally fit.
Additional Requirements:
- No criminal record.
- Good interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills in two of the three official languages of the Western Cape (English, Afrikaans, Xhosa).
- Good health with no mental phobias related to:
- Claustrophobia (confined spaces)
- Acrophobia (heights)
- Bathophobia (depths)
- Aquaphobia (water)
- Hemophobia (blood)
- Achluophobia (darkness)
- Autophobia (isolation)
- Necrophobia (corpses).
Key Responsibilities and Duties
As a Seasonal Firefighter, you will:
- Respond to fire emergencies and provide fire prevention services.
- Engage in rescue operations and deliver basic medical care.
- Maintain firefighting equipment and apparatus.
- Keep fire station facilities in good condition.
- Ensure the safety of residents in compliance with the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987).
Special Condition:
- Applicants must be physically fit and have no cardiac or respiratory anomalies. Successful candidates will undergo physical fitness tests.
